Green Day

Makes me proud to be his mom! He ended up with two green days last week, with a red day in the middle. There was a substitute on that day.

Today we had a little family birthday party with Nana Jones. Brian had already opened his presents from mom and dad and the girls, I guess I can't expect a six year old to wait anymore! We had a special dinner, and I let him choose the menu. He asked for hamburgers, baked potatoes and corn.

Then Nana brought him a present, motorcycles that race (picture in previous post). Then time for cake and ice cream. I did a camo theme, with a marble cake and decorations. It turned out really cute.

Today is also a special day for another member of the Jones family...I love each of the milestones in my children's lives, but it also means that they are growing up. Danielle had a top tooth come through all the way today. I think it had actually broken through on Thursday or Friday, but there have been so many tooth false alarms that I didn't want to jump the gun this time. She is so smart and has been copying things we do in the last week. Yesterday she would pat herself on the belly after daddy started doing it. Tonight she was wiping the floor with a napkin, cause that is what I was doing. I love that I finally have a good helper! She has also shown an interest in baby dolls, especially when Emily has hers, she wants to hold them and cuddle them too. But the most exciting thing was that she took her first steps right before Brian opened his present. She did it a couple of times and I was able to capture it on video, although I probably won't be able to upload it here. I am definitely going to have to figure that out.

Happy 6th Birthday Brian

It seems like just yesterday, and it is hard to believe that 6 years ago today you were born. I wanted to make sure that you had a special day today. Since your birthday was on a Wednesday, we planned your party for Saturday. I brought Chick-fil-a to school and had lunch with you in the cafeteria. Today seemed more relaxed in the lunchroom, the no talking rule had relaxed a little, and they let you go outside and enjoy the beautiful day sooner.

At school you were the VIP for the day, which comes with special privileges too. You get to sit in the VIP chair, you are the line leader, and during nap time you get to rest in the loft. You also got a special birthday visor.

After lunch I stayed for a little math lesson and then story time. I brought snacks for the all of your classmates. We made a special chex mix with pretzels, popcorn and M&M's. Cake, cupcakes and cookies are not allowed. You also helped me make chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles for the kids to take home.

After school, I surprised you with a huge Optimus Prime helium balloon and we headed home to wait for daddy. Presents and Purple Cow awaited. I had hoped that you would want to wait until the party on Saturday to open your gifts ha ha, that was not going to happen! We opened gifts and had a nice dinner and purple milkshakes for dessert.

The Optimus Prime balloon suffered from a premature demise when he caught a sharp corner of a blind when Brian was boxing with him.

Emergency Prepardness Fair

Our church has hosted an Emergency Preparedness Fair for the last three years. Last year Eddie really wanted to go, but things just didn't work out. I had just had Danielle, and so we just did not make it.

So this year I made sure that it was on our calendar. Here are some pictures from the day. The kids had a fun time, and Eddie got some good information to help our family become more prepared.

Accomplishments

Emily is learning so much. Since Brian has homework after school, she works on homework too. She has learned to write her name, and puts her name on her papers at school all by herself now. Yesterday, while we were riding in the car, she asked how long it would take to get somewhere, I told her 5 minutes. She asked how high she would have to count until we would be there. I said count to 60, 5 times, it helps to pass the time and is educational too. She can count to 30 perfectly, and then needs some help with the what comes next (40, 50, 60). She only misses a few numbers and can get to 100! I am so impressed.

She is learning so much at Gymboree, I am happy that I decided to keep her there this year. She is also having fun at her Little Gym dance class. Of course she wants to be a real ballerina when she grows up. Last week was "Superfriends" week. The kids were supposed to bring a doll or a stuffed animal to class. Emily brought her bear that has a ballerina outfit, Perfect!

She plays so great with her sister, it is fun to watch them, and know that someday they will be great friends.

First Haircut

Today was another milestone in Danielle's life. Her first haircut. She was born with a full head of long dark hair. Over the year it has just grown longer, the back was very uneven and the front was so long that it occasionally got stuck in snot from a runny nose. So a haircut was definitely in order.

I like taking the girls to see Jasmine for their haircuts. Jasmine has young kids and works out of her home. She also has naturally curly hair so she knows how to cut curly hair and does a great job.

I didn't take pictures, but I did save a lock of hair, to put in the little keepsake that Auntie Erin got her for her first curl.

Happy First Birthday

My baby is One! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by. It seems only yesterday, I was very pregnant waiting and wondering when you would come. You are not walking yet, but that is OK. You just say maaaaaa, and daaaaaa and also jabber about lots of important things. You have started learning to do some signs. You will now clap your own hands when we play, instead of grabbing mine and making me clap. You point to tell us about something or show us where you want to go. You will entertain yourself, and love to do what Brian and Emily are doing. You are an excellent climber. You express your displeasure with what we call "a worm on a hot rock." You are learning to eat a little, and I think you have a little sweet tooth. You only have two teeth, so you don't eat too much.

I came up with my own party theme, the colors were bright pink, purple, yellow and orange. I used fondant for the first time on your cake, and made buttercream icing.
