You know what they say about the twos? I think we have our first one. Danielle is fiercely independent, and strong-willed. I keep reminding myself that this is a good quality to have. But for every time we want to thump her, there a three other things she does that we just want to laugh, or hug, or smile at her so it all works out.

For her birthday she got this doll that she loves, with a stroller. She also got a tricycle, but is not quite big enough to ride it yet.

She can buckle the stroller, but not unbuckle.

EMILY ROSE

Emily is 4 years old, her favorite color is pink. Her favorite animal is a unicorn and her favorite food is spaghetti. The beach is her favorite place. When she grows up she wants to be a ballerina. Her favorite thing to do is go to the pool, and if she had one wish she would want to be a princess.

In Mrs. Kriz's class each year the students complete their first homework assignment. A poster about them. It is really fun to fill out. We used mostly pictures and it looks very nice.

I even went back and found Brian's all about me poster so we could compare. Such fun memories.

All About Brian

Brian is 4 years old, his favorite color is blue. His favorite animal is a bunny rabbit, and his favorite food is a chocolate shake. Colorado is his favorite place to visit, and when he grows up he wants to be an astronaut. His favorite thing to do is swing on his rocketship. My personal favorite: If he had one wish it would be; "I can't tell you because if I tell you then it won't come true."

PANKO

YUM! I have finally discovered the secret to fried foods like you get in a restaurant. PANKO a Japanese breading is the trick. I have tried all kinds of different coatings to get that same taste and texture, but nothing to this point has come close. We have made fried chicken, mozzarella sticks, mushrooms and zucchini using this stuff and they have all been wonderful. Add a little ranch dressing to dip in and you have found heaven. Of course this recipe is totally healthy like many of The Pioneer Woman's other recipes.

Aliens have abducted my children

Today we were working in and around the house. Eddie was in the garage, and I hadn't seen the big kids in a few minutes, which usually means trouble. Soon after that they both came running into the garage asking us to come check out what they had done. Oh no!! Eddie and I walked around the side of the house and they had weeded the entire flower bed, and they did a good job. I helped them finish and bag up the weeds. They did this project without being asked, although they did have some motivation. We have been paying them for chores for their Disney World spending fund. Money that I would be giving them anyway, but it works out well for everyone when they are helping around the house and then they can pick out some souvenirs.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

I saw free tickets to the Arkansas Travellers baseball game at the library for a Friday night game, so we decided to go. The weather was nice, and we had some friends joins us. Our seats were on a grassy mound, perfect for restless little ones.

The first thing on the kids list was getting cotton candy. We started with hot dogs for dinner. The kids danced to the music, ran around, sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and finally got their cotton candy. Danielle didn't really like the cotton candy, but thought it made a nice cotton ball!

Although it was getting late and the dads were past ready to go, the moms wanted to stay until the end and let the kids run the bases. The kids had a blast and we got free bowling tickets for running the bases. Now we can have more free fun another time.

Firsts

Today was Brian's first day of first grade. He started at his new school, Williams Magnet. He loved it! I am so relieved.

It was also Emily's first day of Pre-K 4. I think maybe the jury is still out on whether or not she loved it. Maybe it was because it was too hot to play outside, or that she said she needed two sandwiches for lunch because she was still hungry. Or the fact that she didn't get enough sleep, and when I picked her up she had just recently fallen asleep on her rest mat, and she was grumpy when she woke up.


We celebrated our first day with ice cream from Baskin Robbins. Brian sure is like his mom...picks the same "safe" thing each time, Gold Medal Ribbon. Emily tried Cotton Candy, it was pink and purple, what more could a girl want? Danielle sampled some of both. And mommy got her usual, Butter Pecan, and Rocky Road on a sugar cone.

Brian's "theme" for the year is responsibility. I like that, we are going to work on that at home more too.

Fortunes and Rain

We had chinese food today. The kids were interested in having their fortunes read. Sometimes they are interesting so I wrote them down.

Brian's: You will be showered with good luck tomorrow.
Emily's: In three months from today something good will happen to you.

Today was the kids last day at River City. The had a great summer there as usual. Today the kids made their tie dye shirts. This event is always the highlight. I think they turned out great. Of course Danielle wanted a shirt like the big kids, luckily I had Brian's shirt from last year and although at one time it was blue, it looks purple now and is perfect for Danielle.


Jenna invited some friends to a back to school pool party. We had a great time. It rained really hard and it was fun playing in the water while it was raining, but kinda hard to see because the rain got in your eyes.It was so hot the rain didn't even cool you off. Funny that is hasn't rained hardly at all this summer, and today we have rain, such luck.
